Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 cups fresh spinach leaves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese

Other

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • Extra ½ cup shredded mozzarella for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef and Spinach Sauce: Sauté finely chopped onions and minced garlic in olive oil over medium heat until fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces. Stir in fresh spinach leaves until wilted, then pour in the tomato sauce along with dried basil and oregano. Let simmer for 10-15 minutes to meld flavors.
  2. Mix the Cheese Filling: In a large bowl, combine ricotta, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, and shredded provolone cheeses. Mix well until creamy and evenly blended.
  3. Cook the Lasagna Noodles: Boil lasagna noodles in salted water until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and lay flat on a clean surface or tray to prevent sticking while assembling.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna: Spread a thin layer of the beef and spinach sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Layer noodles over the sauce, followed by a generous layer of the cheese mixture, then more sauce. Repeat layering until all ingredients are used, finishing with noodles topped with sauce and extra shredded mozzarella cheese.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40 minutes. Remove the foil during the last 10 minutes to allow the cheese to brown beautifully. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh spinach for better flavor and texture compared to frozen.
  • Drain ricotta cheese if too watery to prevent soggy layers.
  • Allow the baked lasagna to rest for 10-15 minutes to set properly for neat slices.
  • Distribute cheese and sauce layers evenly for balanced flavor in every bite.
  • Use high-quality cheeses for best melt and taste.
