Bang Bang Chicken

Bang Bang Chicken is a vibrant, flavorful dish featuring tender chicken tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce that balances heat, sweetness, and tang. Perfect for quick meals or appetizers, it delivers a satisfying combination of crispy texture and bold flavors that is easy to make, customizable, and versatile for any occasion.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Chicken breasts or thighs – 1 lb (450g), cut into bite-sized pieces or strips
  • Mayonnaise – ½ cup (120g)
  • Sriracha sauce – 2 tbsp (adjust to taste)
  • Honey or sugar – 1 tbsp
  • Rice vinegar or lime juice – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic powder – ½ tsp
  • Green onions – 2 stalks, chopped

Optional Ingredients

  • Panko breadcrumbs or cornstarch – ½ cup for coating
  • Sesame seeds – 1 tsp for garnish
  • Cayenne pepper – pinch for extra heat
  • Cooking oil – 2-3 tbsp for frying

Instructions

  1. Prep the Chicken: Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces or strips. If you desire a crispy texture, lightly coat the chicken in panko breadcrumbs or cornstarch to prepare it for frying, baking, or air frying.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat and cook the chicken until golden brown and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Alternatively, bake the coated chicken in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even crust.
  3. Make the Bang Bang Sauce: While the chicken cooks, combine mayonnaise, Sriracha, honey, rice vinegar, and garlic powder in a bowl. Adjust the spice level by adding more or less Sriracha according to your preference.
  4. Toss and Combine: After cooking, allow the chicken to cool slightly. Then, thoroughly toss the chicken pieces in the Bang Bang sauce, making sure each piece is evenly coated and flavorful.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Finish by sprinkling chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top for added texture and color. Serve the dish hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use fresh chicken for the best texture and even cooking.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust sweetness, spice, or tang as you mix for a balanced flavor.
  • Allow cooked chicken to rest briefly before tossing with sauce to lock in juiciness.
  • Double the sauce quantity if you prefer extra flavor for dipping or drizzling.
  • Try air frying the coated chicken as a healthier alternative to frying.
