Christmas Present Brownies Recipe

These Christmas Present Brownies are a festive and fun treat perfect for holiday gifting or parties. Rich chocolate brownies decorated with colorful buttercream icing to resemble wrapped gifts, combining simplicity, deliciousness, and creative presentation for joyful holiday moments.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup (35g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour (or gluten-free baking blend)

Frosting and Decoration

  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter or shortening (softened)
  • 12 teaspoons milk or water (for consistency)
  • Food coloring (red, green, and white)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Brownie Batter: Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until combined. Add the cocoa powder and vanilla extract, mixing well. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the flour until just combined, being careful not to overmix for tender brownies.
  2. Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into a lined or greased 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking pan. Smooth the top with a spatula. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool completely before decorating.
  3. Make the Frosting and Color It: Combine the powdered sugar with softened butter or shortening and a small splash of milk or water to create a thick but spreadable icing. Divide the frosting into separate bowls and add your chosen food coloring to create festive red, green, and white colors.
  4. Decorate to Look Like Christmas Presents: Cut the cooled brownies into equal squares. Using piping bags or small ziplock bags with the corner snipped off, pipe ribbon and bow designs over each brownie to transform them into adorable edible gift boxes.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs for better blending and smoother batter.
  • Don’t overbake; check the brownies a few minutes early to avoid dry edges.
  • Ensure brownies are fully cooled before frosting to prevent melting or sliding icing.
  • If piping ribbons, slightly thin your frosting with milk for smooth, precise lines.
  • Practice piping decorations on parchment paper beforehand to perfect your technique.
