Ingredients

Scale

Tuna Steaks

  • 4 fresh sashimi-grade tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Mango Salsa

  • 2 ripe mangoes, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 red onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mango Salsa: Dice the ripe mangoes, red bell pepper, and red onion into small, even pieces. Finely chop the fresh cilantro and jalapeño if using. Combine all ingredients in a bowl, then squeeze fresh lime juice over the mixture, drizzle with olive oil, and gently toss to blend the flavors. Set aside to let the salsa marinate briefly.
  2. Season the Tuna Steaks: Pat the tuna steaks dry with a paper towel. Brush both sides lightly with olive oil and season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance their natural flavor.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high and make sure the grates are clean and well-oiled to prevent sticking. The grill should be hot enough to sear the tuna quickly.
  4. Grill the Tuna Steaks: Place the tuna steaks on the grill and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, depending on thickness and your preferred doneness. Tuna is best served slightly pink in the center for moist texture and rich flavor.
  5. Serve with Mango Salsa: Remove the tuna from the grill and let it rest for a minute. Plate each steak and generously top with the fresh mango salsa for a refreshing and hearty finish.

Notes

  • Use sushi or sashimi-grade tuna for the best texture and flavor.
  • Don’t overcook the tuna to keep it juicy and tender.
  • Use a hot grill to get a perfect sear that locks in flavor.
  • Allow the mango salsa to rest for about 10 minutes for the flavors to meld.
  • Pat the tuna dry before grilling to avoid steaming and achieve a better sear.
  • Adjust the jalapeño amount or omit it for a milder salsa.
  • Can substitute cilantro with fresh basil or mint for a different herb flavor.
  • Try swapping mango for pineapple or peach for a fruit variation.
  • The recipe is naturally gluten-free and keto-friendly.
  • To make it vegan, replace tuna with grilled tofu or portobello mushrooms.
