Homemade Sausage Egg Cheese

A warm, savory, and protein-packed breakfast recipe combining flavorful sausage, fluffy eggs, and melty cheese. Quick to prepare and versatile, it’s perfect for busy mornings or relaxed brunches.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage

  • 1/2 lb ground pork, turkey, or chicken sausage (well-seasoned)

Eggs

  • 4 large fresh eggs

Cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack, or mozzarella cheese

Cooking Fat

  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil

Seasonings

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Optional Extras

  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped bell peppers
  • 1 tablespoon fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, or chives)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the sausage. Break it up with a spoon and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and crispy on the edges. Drain excess fat if desired.
  2. Scramble the Eggs: In a bowl, whisk the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper until smooth. Pour the eggs into the skillet with the cooked sausage, stirring gently to combine. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the eggs are fluffy and just set.
  3. Melt the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the hot sausage and eggs in the skillet. Cover with a lid and let sit for 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts and becomes gooey.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Transfer the mixture onto warm toast, English muffins, tortillas, or bagels. Serve immediately and enjoy your hearty breakfast.

Notes

  • Choose quality, well-seasoned sausage for best flavor.
  • Don’t overcook eggs; remove from heat when slightly runny to avoid dryness.
  • Cook eggs over medium-low heat for soft, creamy texture.
  • Use a nonstick pan to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  • Experiment with different cheeses to vary flavors and textures.
