Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 250g Mascarpone cheese
  • 60ml Espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  • 100g Ladyfinger crumbs (finely crushed)
  • 50g Powdered sugar

Coating & Optional Ingredients

  • Cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • 100g Dark chocolate or chocolate coating (optional, for dipping)
  • 15ml Optional liqueur (such as Marsala or coffee liqueur)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Coffee Mixture: Brew a strong espresso or coffee and allow it to cool completely. If using liqueur, stir it into the cooled coffee to evenly infuse the flavor.
  2. Combine Mascarpone and Sweetener: In a mixing bowl, whip the mascarpone cheese together with powdered sugar until the mixture is smooth and slightly fluffy, forming the creamy base of the truffles.
  3. Add Coffee and Ladyfinger Crumbs: Gradually fold in the cooled espresso mixture along with the finely crushed ladyfinger crumbs. Mix gently until a thick, slightly sticky dough forms.
  4. Chill the Mixture: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least one hour to firm up the mixture, making it easier to shape.
  5. Shape the Truffles: Use a teaspoon or small scoop to form uniform bite-sized balls. Roll them between your palms to create smooth, even spheres.
  6. Coat the Truffles: Roll each truffle in cocoa powder for a classic finish or dip in melted dark chocolate for an extra rich, decadent coating. Place on parchment paper to set.
  7. Final Chill: Refrigerate the coated truffles for an additional hour to firm up, intensify flavors, and improve texture before serving.

Notes

  • Use Quality Espresso: Fresh, strong espresso greatly enhances the coffee flavor.
  • Don’t Overmix: Fold ingredients gently to keep the mixture light and creamy without becoming dense.
  • Chill Thoroughly: Chilling makes the truffles easier to shape and helps them hold their form.
  • Uniform Sizing: Use a small scoop for consistent truffle size and even presentation.
  • Experiment with Coatings: Try different coatings like crushed nuts, cinnamon sugar, or matcha powder for diverse textures and flavors.
